Affirm Films is a American Christian film studio, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment via, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions, the company produces, acquires, and markets faith-based and inspirational movies and television content designed to uplift and entertain audiences with spiritual values, known for hits like War Room, Soul Surfer, and Miracles from Heaven.
History
The studio's origins trace back to the mid-2000s success of low-budget independent faith-based films. Sony's first foray into the genre came in 2006 with the theatrical release of Facing the Giants (directed by the Kendrick Brothers and released by Destination Films), which grossed over $10 million domestically despite its modest origins. This proved the commercial viability of the market, prompting Sony to formally establish Affirm Films the following year.
In 2007 Affirm Films was launched, it's first major project under the label — co-producing, marketing, and distributing the Kendrick Brothers' Fireproof, which became a breakout hit grossing over $33 million worldwide.
In 2021, It launched Affirm Originals, a division that focuses on television production and streaming.
